Confidentiality
Counselling offers the opportunity to talk and express emotions freely; safe in the knowledge that everything stays confidential.
As a professional counsellor I work in line with the code of ethics of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) of which I am a registered member.
I keep everything you talk to me about strictly confidential with the following exceptions:
Supervision
In line with good practice and under the code of ethics of the BACP I receive regular supervision from an experienced supervisor with whom I discuss my cases. My supervisor in turn maintains the same level of confidentiality as I do.
Danger of Harm:
If I am concerned there is a danger of harm to yourself or someone else then my role changes and I might have to talk to an appropriate third party. Wherever possible I will discuss this with you in advance.
In online therapy clients need to ensure their own privacy both from interruption and online.
